DSSSB Syllabus – TGT, PGT, PRT and General Posts
DSSSB does not publish one syllabus for every exam. It publishes an indicative syllabus for the common part of the paper (Section A) and, for many posts, a subject syllabus (Section B). Which one applies to you depends on the exam scheme printed in the advertisement for your post code. This page sums up what DSSSB's own documents say, so you know what to study first.
Please note: DSSSB Master is an independent practice platform, not connected with DSSSB. This summary is based on documents published on the DSSSB website. Details can change from one advertisement to the next, so always verify on dsssb.delhi.gov.in.
How the DSSSB syllabus is organised
Most DSSSB written exams have two kinds of content:
- Section A – the common section. General Awareness, Reasoning, Arithmetic, English and Hindi. The same five areas appear in teaching and in general (non-teaching) exams.
- Section B – the subject section. Questions on the subject and qualification needed for your post, such as your TGT subject or the PGT post-graduation subject.
On its website DSSSB keeps two separate pages for these, called Section A Indicative Syllabus and Section-B Indicative Syllabus. Marks for each part are on our DSSSB exam pattern page.
Section A syllabus (common to most exams)
This is what DSSSB's indicative syllabus lists for each part of Section A:
| Part | What it covers |
|---|---|
| General Awareness | Current events and everyday observation, plus History, Polity, Constitution, Sports, Art & Culture, Geography, Economics, Everyday Science, Scientific Research and national and international organisations. |
| General Intelligence & Reasoning | Analogy, classification, series, coding-decoding, blood relations, direction sense, Venn diagrams, sitting arrangements, ranking, syllogism, statement-based questions (arguments, assumptions, conclusions, courses of action), assertion and reason, cause and effect and analytical reasoning. |
| Arithmetical & Numerical Ability | Number system and simplification, decimals, fractions, LCM and HCF, ratio and proportion, percentage, average, profit and loss, discount, simple and compound interest, mensuration, time and work, time and distance, and data interpretation from tables and charts. |
| English Language & Comprehension | Vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms and correct usage. |
| Hindi Language & Comprehension | Vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, synonyms, antonyms and correct usage in Hindi. |
The PGT scheme calls two parts "Mental Ability & Reasoning Ability" and "Numerical Aptitude & Data Interpretation", with similar topics. In teaching exams each part carries 20 marks (100 in all). In the one-tier general exam each part carries 40 marks (200 in all).
Section B syllabus for TGT, PGT and PRT
Section B is where the teaching posts differ. Recent DSSSB advertisements describe it like this:
- TGT (Advertisement 02/2024): questions from the subject concerned, including teaching methodology/B.Ed.
- PGT (Advertisement 10/2024): questions on the post-graduation subject and the teaching methodology required for the post.
- PRT – Assistant Teacher (Primary) (Advertisement 05/2025): questions based on the NCTE curriculum, including teaching methodology.
DSSSB's Section-B Indicative Syllabus page has separate files for many recent post codes, for example TGT Computer Science (post code 41/26). If your post code has none, follow the description in your advertisement.
Syllabus for general (non-teaching) posts
For posts examined under the one-tier general scheme, the syllabus is Section A only: the same five areas listed above, each worth 40 marks. Some posts have a second tier with its own syllabus, which DSSSB publishes separately. The advertisement tells you which scheme your post follows.
How to use the syllabus while preparing
- Download the official files for your post code before you plan.
- Do not neglect Section A. For TGT and PRT it is half the paper, and its marks count in the final merit list.
- Map past questions to the syllabus. Solving DSSSB previous year papers topic by topic shows which parts come up most.
- Test yourself regularly with a timed DSSSB practice test, then return to the weak topics.
Frequently asked questions
Is the DSSSB syllabus the same for TGT, PGT and PRT?
Section A covers the same five areas for all three, though the PGT scheme names two of them slightly differently. Section B is different: for TGT it is the subject with teaching methodology/B.Ed., for PGT it is the post-graduation subject with teaching methodology, and for PRT it is based on the NCTE curriculum with teaching methodology.
Where can I download the official DSSSB syllabus?
On dsssb.delhi.gov.in, under the Section A Indicative Syllabus and Section-B Indicative Syllabus pages. The advertisement for your post code gives the exam scheme that applies to you.
Is there a minimum qualifying mark in Section A?
In the recent teaching advertisements (TGT 02/2024, PGT 10/2024 and PRT 05/2025), minimum qualifying marks apply only to the subject section, not to Section A. Marks from both sections still count for the merit list. Check the advertisement for your post.
Can the DSSSB syllabus or scheme change?
Yes. DSSSB states that it can change or amend the examination scheme before the exam. Always follow the latest advertisement and notices for your post code.
